Display Gardens
A blank canvas can be an exciting opportunity to let your imagination run wild. In 2003 we became the fortunate owners of our own blank canvas, and over the years have created our own garden portraits. Each garden represents a different time in our journey here at the farm, and we hope the journey is a long one.
Nancy & Joe Mallette
Our English Rose Garden
There is no better way to open a garden than to witness your son and daughter in law exchange their vows. Joey and Katie were married on August 08, 2009, with family and friends gathered to mark this magical day.
Designs were complete in 2008, and construction began in the spring of 2009. Hundreds of cream and white roses are surrounded by boxwoods, and a crisp green lawn. A natural stone entrance and stone pathway lead guests to a bubbling fountain. All encompassed by a Amur Maple hedge this garden lends privacy and elegance to any occasion.
We invite everyone to visit this garden and perhaps create your own special memory.
The Herb, Edible & Cutting Garden
In 2010 we included hundreds of dahlias, sunflowers, tulips, and perennials for a cutting garden. A nice compliment to the fresh herbs that fill the containers, and garden plots.
Everyone loves fresh herbs, so we created the Herb & Edible Garden in 2005. Showcasing the many different herbs that can be used not only for culinary purposes, but simply for the love of gardening. The border surrounding this garden is planted with perennials that are used mainly in medicinal recipes and for scented oils and potpourris. The pottery arrangements overflow with annual and perennial herbs.
The Courtyard Gardens
Inspired by the surrounding, century old barns and lovely view of the rolling fields beyond this secluded garden was created in 2005 for a cancer fundraiser, held here in 2006. What was once a working barnyard, complete with a concrete floor and fencing, was transformed into a magical mix of ever blooming perennials, lovely evergreens and flowering shrubs. Enter through the antique gate, once a fixture on one of Newcastle’s oldest homes. Stroll the pea stone paths that lead to the flowing riverbed. Listen to the sounds of bubbling water as it trickles into the dry stone well. Birds and butterflies have claimed this garden as their own. In 2007 we were honored to hold our 1st wedding in this garden, when Steve and Mel exchanged their vows. This garden will always hold a special place in our hearts because of this day.
The Ponds
Wanting to create the perfect water feature we were fortunate our property was home to two large ponds. Plans to restore these ponds began in 2003, but it wasn’t until the summer of 2007 that restoration began. After consultation with the Ganaraska Conservation Authority our plans moved forward. The ponds are damn controlled, which allowed us to lower the water levels, maintaining a high enough water level for the aquatic life to survive. The depth of the ponds was increased, and the banks were sloped to control further erosion. The plantings around the ponds will consist of native plants, shrubs, and trees. Once the plantings are complete the paths will be established and our guests will be invited to enjoy these areas. Until then we ask you enjoy watching our progress, but please do not enter the work areas.
